Dr. Kathy graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University in 1994. She has worked in the Mattawan area for over 20 years. Dr. Kathy likes the small town aspect – she likes going into a store and having people know her.
Dr. Kathy chose the veterinary profession at a young age. While growing up she had a dog that was dying of cancer. The caring and concern the family veterinarian showed for her dog made Dr. Kathy realize that she wanted to bring that same caring and concern to others for their pets.
Dr. Kathy is the proud mother of a son, Sam! She has 2 dogs; Lucy, a Great Dane and Cecilia, a tan Dachshund/Chihuahua mix.
Dr. Kathy loves what she does. Every morning she wakes up anxious to start the day caring for her client’s pets and the clients too!
Dr Lisa Applegate joined our practice in 2015 as a part time veterinarian. She has now grown into working full time in our office.
She graduated in 1994 from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine as a DVM. She continued to pursue her education post graduate at the University of Prince Edward Island College of Veterinary Medicine.
Her hobbies include: Kayaking, backpacking, camping, painting and drawing, cross country skiing and gardening and farming.
She has a farm full of pets including: 2 Leonbergers, Nova and Annabelle, a Maremma named Bailey, a Pug named Ella, a Frenchie named Charlotte, a Shih Tzu named Cody, a Yorkie named Sky. 5 Cts (Paulie, Goose, Henry, Oreo and Mikey). 3 birds (Simon, Digger and Charlie Brown). 4 goats (Snowdrops, Lavinnym Eva and Marie). 2 Guinea Pigs (Dahlia and Zinnia). 1 Tortoise named Alex, 2 geese Jimmy and Ann. 65 chickens of various breeds and 9 peacocks (Beauty, Martin, Gerty, Peter, Paul, Mary, Gino and Lucciano).
When asked what interested her in the veterinary field she stated ” As a child we always had pets and my favorite time was visiting the vet. I started working for a vet at 13 years of age and never stopped”.
Dr Lisa is passionate about her work and her motto is “I love what I do and do what I love”. She worked at Lawton Animal Hospital for 16 years before it closed 2 years ago.
She has 3 children a son (Brook) and 2 daughters (Kara and Mia).
Dr. Christina Fossitt is a Paw Paw native. She and her husband, Dexter, are both 2002 graduates from Paw Paw High School. She then spent the following eight years at Michigan State University earning her Bachelor’s of Science in Animal Science studies and then her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine.
She has two daughters, Frances and Hazel, and a sweet, old cat named Ellie. Recently, a hound mix puppy named Buddy has joined the family and has increased the adventures!
She enjoys spending her free time outside hiking, camping, kayaking, cross country skiing or just chasing her kids around. She “bleeds green” and enjoys following Spartan sports too.
Dr Fossitt has practiced mixed animal medicine throughout Michigan and Wisconsin and is happy to be settled back in her hometown. She enjoys the challenges of small town medicine and is looking forward to continuing to bring quality care to the area.

Karlean grew up in northeast Wisconsin and always had dogs and cats as important members of her family. From a young age she knew she wanted a career working with animals, and dreamed of some day entering the field of veterinary medicine. With a particular interest in wildlife, Karlean started out volunteering at several wildlife rehabilitation centers in Wisconsin and Michigan. In 1997, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, then moved to Michigan. Although she spent the next 15 years working outside the field of animal medicine, Karlean always felt there was something missing and longed to return to her life-long passion for a career with animals. Switching her focus to small animal medicine, she returned to school and graduated with an Associate of Science degree in Veterinary Technology from Brown Mackie College-South Bend in 2012.
First coming to Family Pet Health Center as a student, Karlean was thrilled to become part of the staff in 2013. She enjoys working with skilled people who genuinely care about the patients, clients and each other. Karlean appreciates the dynamic challenges and continual learning opportunities a career in medicine offers. Outside of work, Karlean’s biggest interests include music, dance, travel and photography. Her family currently includes three cats, but her greatest passion is being mom to her young son, Tristan.
Robyn is a licensed veterinary technician that graduated from Michigan State University in 1988.
She is an active 4-H leader with over 20 years of service in Allegan County where she teaches youth about dairy cattle, beef cattle, goats, swine, and rabbits. She is the administrative leader of the Milk ‘n Honey 4-H Club, assistant coach of the Allegan County 4-H Dairy Team and Dairy Superintendent of the Allegan County Fair.
She is married with four incredible sons- one who has nearly completed his education in becoming a surveying engineer; one who is headed into the armed services; one whom is a junior in high school who raises and shows beef cattle; and one who is an incredible pitcher on a baseball travel team.
Robyn’s fur babies include a black Lab named Samantha, a slightly neurotic Pembroke Welsh Corgi named Foxy who truly understands ‘unconditional love’, a dairy cow named Minnie who ties Robyn to her home twice a day – every day – no matter what, 9 beef cattle whom are nearly as gentle and appreciative of a good ‘scratching’ as the Lab, and a horse who believes he is a cow.

Kevin became interested in the Veterinary field during the summer of 2008. He was employed at Allegan County Sherrif”s Department working as a corrections officer but knew he wanted a career change. In 2008 he began observing veterinary work here at Family Pet Health Center and decided that he wanted to become a veterinary technician. Kevin was hired in August 2010.
Kevin loves animals and finds that working in the veterinary field is very rewarding. He really loves how everyone works together to help pets recover from illness or injury.
Kevin is very empathetic with the patients and their owners. His caring and concern for both pet and owner is very evident in his work. Kevin strives to make each pet as comfortable as possible during their stay in the clinic.
Kevin has been married to his lovely wife, Denise. He has 2 children: Miranda and Nick.
Kevin owns 1 dog: Finn, a black Shepherd
Kevin also has 3 cats: Mouse, Nemi and Smokey.
Kevin has a great sense of humor and constantly keeps us laughing.
Luana was a licensed Veterinarian in Brazil and worked there for many years in a clinic. She moved to the US around 2013 with her husband Celso. Her veterinary license would not transfer from Brazil to the US since our licensing criteria is different, so she is currently attending Penn Foster to earn her Licensed Veterinary Technician degree. Currently, she spends most of her time in the clinic working in surgery with our lead technician Robyn and the doctors.

Lori joined the staff as business manager in April of 2016, prior to that she was a multi-unit tax office manager and prepared income taxes for six years. Lori has also been the clinic web designer since 2008. She oversees many facets of the business so that Dr. Kathy can focus on her patients and their owners.
Lori is married to Tom and they have 2 children, 8 grandchildren and two German Short hair Pointer named Greta and Jewel.
Lori loves her job at Family Pet Health Center and is so excited to be a part of such a great and cheerful environment.
Away from the clinic Lori enjoys volunteering with Mattawan Community Events and Promotions, reading Stephen King novels, camping, kayaking, going to concerts and gardening.
Kennel Attendant & Tech Assistant
Caitlin joined our team June of 2019 as our kennel attendant and has since grown into answering our curbside calls and working as a technicians assistant. She is a jack of many trades in our clinic and loves to snuggle all the animals, especially the kitties.
Caitlin loves all types of animals, she has two German Shepherds, Roxie and Gunner. She and her husband Neko also own two snakes and many chickens.
Kayla knew at a young age that she would work in the veterinary field. She loves animals and always wanted more pets!
Kayla has worked in the veterinary profession since 1980. Her various veterinary duties have included; doctor’s assistant, surgical assistant, receptionist, medical record keeper/transcriptionist and billing/accounts receivable.
Kayla has been married to her husband since 1980. She has one son.
Kayla enjoys traveling, crocheting, reading, writing, arts and crafts and garage sales.
Kayla has 1 dog, Kiva, a Dachshund/Beagle mix. She also has 2 cats: Dodger, a Siamese mix and Shade, a dark grey and white longhair.
